The compact crossover category is steadily growing. Cars like the Nissan Juke, Hyundai Creta, Renault Sandero Stepway and VW Cross Polo dominate this segment. Chinese brand, Haval hasn’t been left behind as they have recently unveiled the H1 mini crossover. Question is, does it have what it takes to beat its established rivals?

Design
The edgy design theme of the H1 plus its 185mm ground clearance gives it an athletic stance especially when paired with the stylish 16-inch alloy wheels. Daytime Running Lamps, front and rear fog lamps and height-adjustable headlamps makes sure you are visible wherever you go.
Cabin
The cabin is modern and well laid out, not forgetting the use of high-quality materials on the various surfaces. The centre console houses a monochrome display that illustrates audio functionality. The driver can make use of audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, cruise control and Bluetooth functionality.
Electric windows with push-down function at the driver’s side comes standard. This allows the driver to have full control. As a plus, passengers can also enjoy touch button window controls.
The cabin has multiple cup holders and a cargo curtain that help keep things organised. The separated foldable rear seats with a 60:40 split provides extra luggage space when you need to squeeze as much as you can into the compact SUV.
Power Delivery
The H1 is powered by a fuel-efficient 1.5-litre VVT petrol engine that churns out 69kW and 130Nm. Gear shifts are done via a 5-speed manual transmission, that is well matched to explore the full potential of the 69kW on tap.
Safety
Like any modern crossover, the H1 boasts both active and passive safety systems. The active features include ABS with EBD, while passive systems include dual airbags, a seatbelt unfastening warning system, child seat anchors and child door locks. In addition to those, it has park distance control, remote central locking and a nifty car locating function which provides added convenience.
