It came as a bit of a surprise to see Nollywood actress and model, Damilola Adegbite sharing her mechanic experience but this is precisely what she did.
In a space of 5 minutes, the actress narrates in great detail her experience with her mechanic in Nigeria who has been working on her car over a period of 10 years.
In the video, which she shared on her Instagram page via the Instagram TV feature, she narrates how she stumbled on a discovery that has changed her dealings with Nigerian mechanics forever.
She wraps up the video by sharing a series of advice with Nigerian women who drive their own cars and ladies who are responsible for the maintenance and repair of their cars.
Adegbite might have had the flu while recording the clip as evident in her voice at the beginning of the video but her message was clearly to ladies.
“…something that happened to me yesterday that I thought I should just share – I might be helping someone. Ladies, please, if you own a car and you feel like some work needs to be done in it and you want to take it to the mechanic, please, every time a mechanic gives you a quote, have him break it down; details! What do you want to fix? How much is this? How much is that? What is this? What is that? And then sum it up…”
By this time, her face had taken on a slightly grim and more serious look but she clearly wasn’t done.
“After he does that, always run the quote by a guy – a male friend, your boyfriend, your daddy, your husband or your colleague. Always have a guy check it out before you make payment. These guys are wild!”
Thereafter, she threw herself into the story about her mechanic. See the video below:

Final Thoughts on Damilola Adegbite’s Mechanic Experience
Speaking on Adegbite’s experience, Auto experts in Nigeria appear to be on the same page with her and highlighted a need for drivers to seek a second opinion before making payment for mechanical faults pointed out by mechanics in Nigeria.
Victor Iyagin, the Inventory Supervisor, Cheki Nigeria said, “Nothing should be taken at face value. Not all mechanics are crooked but you should not take anything for granted. When a mechanic hands you a quote for your car repair, you need to audit it. You can start by seeking the opinion of experts and people who know better.”
