Slowest Cars You Can Buy in 2020

It might come a bit surprising that at this point in 2020 when the world is talking about cars with blinding speed and godlike capabilities, you find yourself reading about the slowest cars in the world today.

To be fair to the slowest cars around, most of them are not as bad as you might have been erroneously made to believe. They can move you from point A to B, but don’t ask at what time or speed? They also have one or two impressive features that you probably didn’t know about. Well, let’s find out together! Here are the slowest cars you can buy in 2020:

1. 2021 Subaru Crosstrek (0-60 mph in 9.2 seconds)

The Crosstrek is Subaru’s entry into the compact SUV segment. It is reliable for off-road driving and has good on-road handling and practicality. Meanwhile, it is awfully boring when it comes to acceleration as the model retains the weak 152 hp Boxer engine. It has an upgraded engine option though.

2. 2020 Toyota Yaris (0-60 mph in 9.6 seconds)

The Yaris has been a great choice for many years for those looking for an affordable hatchback. This model is also practical, affordable and small. But there are better options than the Toyota Yaris in terms of performance.

3. 2020 Toyota Prius (0-60 mph in 9.7 seconds)

If you are familiar with the Toyota Prius, it should not come to you as a surprise that it has been included on this list. It is still one of the slowest cars money can buy despite years of updates. It comes with some amazing features though. Such features include wonderful fuel economy and its affordable price. It is nonetheless awfully boring when it comes to performance as its 121 hp sent through CVT transmission limits its speed and acceleration.

4. 2020 Nissan Kicks (0-60 mph in 10.5 seconds)

If you derive pleasure from impeding other motorists from arriving at their destination on time by driving a very slow crossover on the freeway, then hop into the Nissan Kicks any day. This car is assembled with a 122hp 1.6-litre four-cylinder with a CVT transmission to run the small crossover.  This makes movement along the highway quite slow in a way that is very noticeable. If you know you can’t bear this, better opt for faster crossovers in the same league.

5. 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid (0-60mph in 10.7 seconds)

There are many things right with this car. It comes with impressive standard equipment, great styling and it is available in hybrid trim. But there is one thing wrong with this car. It has a 121 hp powertrain that crawls from 0-60 mph in 10.7 seconds and wheezes past the quarter-mile in 18 seconds. It is advisable to plan your rides and schedules well ahead of time if you are riding in the 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid.

6. 2020 Toyota C-HR (0-60 mph in 11 seconds)

The 2020 Toyota C-HR is not a pretender to the throne when it comes to quality features. Its bold, aggressive styling gives it out as a car designed to fulfil some sporting intentions. However, it fails woefully when it comes to actual performance. Its languid 144 hp four-cylinder and CVT transmission directly work against the speed of the car. With the 2020 Toyota C-HR, you don’t need to be worried about the popular line, “speed kills”. You probably only need to concern yourself with whether “driving slowly” could be dangerous.

7. 2020 Ford EcoSport (0-60 mph in 11.2 seconds)

The Ford EcoSport 2020 has a standard 1-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces a decent 123 hp and 125lb-ft of torque. However, the 3000 pounds weight of the car means that the horsepower and torque produced are simply inadequate to provide any sort of acceleration that can be described as fast. If you attempt to take this car on a rollercoaster, you risk being tailgated by everyone.

8. 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage (0-60 mph in 12 seconds)

This car is pointedly named the ‘Mirage’ to break any illusion that you will ever be ahead of cars in traffic. When in the Mitsubishi Mirage, any car behind you is a big optical illusion. Its 78 hp has a throttle response that is pretty slow based on its acceleration and speed. Don’t count on this car to get you to work on time, especially when you know you are already running late. With this car, you’d probably need to wake up many hours earlier than usual.
