The Ford Ranger continues to trailblaze the Pick-up segment with its sturdy chassis, capable drive train and now a whole new range of efficient engines to make it an unbeatable package for 2020.
Design Language
The Ford Ranger has had a facelift, especially on the front profile. It now boasts a new bumper design. The grille has also been redesigned such that the central bar is now split. This makes it easier to distinguish the new XL, XLS and XLT models. The grilles have a more horizontal design that no longer stretches into the lower bumper.
The butch Wildtrak still wears its familiar appearance. It’s vertically extending grille that has a dark titanium-effect finish applied to the mirrors and door handles have been maintained.
Next-Generation Diesel Engines
To enhance efficiency, Ford has introduced a set of two brand new 2.0L diesel engines. The high-power version produces 157kW and 500Nm and is paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. This engine will be on the Raptor and Wildtrak Versions. The Single turbo version in XLT delivers 132kW and 420Nm and will be on the Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara.
The new engines are said to offer improved efficiency, lower noise and vibration levels compared to the older 2.2-litre and 3.2-litre turbo diesel engines. The turbo engines continue to be offered.
The 3.2, five-cylinder engine produces 147kW and 470Nm, while the 2.2 produces 88kW and 285Nm in base models.
The Ranger comes with the latest driver-assist aid. It comes with Parallel Park Assist System, Blind Spot assist, lane departure warning and adaptive radar cruise control. The entry-level XLT are now fitted with keyless entry and an ‘EZ lift’ tailgate that uses a torsion rod to reduce the effort required to close the tailgate by 70 per cent.
Ford Ranger Wildtrak
The Wild Trak’s looks are further enhanced by a Black interior colour scheme. The surfaces look more lustrous. Additionally, dark-satin chrome elements and partial-leather seats with Wildtrak embroidery and orange stitching also come standard.
The car is fitted with the Sync3 infotainment system linked to a 20cm touchscreen. It includes satnav as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
The Wildtrak also continues to offer active safety features. This includes Auto High Beam Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Alert as well as Lane-Keeping Aid and Alert. A 3 year-year/100 000km warranty and 3-year/90 000km service plan are standard across the range.
