Volkswagen Starts Tiguan Local Assembly

Volkswagen dealer DT Dobie has began local assembly of the Tiguan SUV. It is the first time ever where the Tiguan is being assembled in the Sub Saharan Africa. Built at the KVM Thika plant, the Tiguan SUV is Volkswagen’s attempt into the lucrative soft broader market. Soft Roader is dominated with the likes of the Toyota RAV4, Nissan X-Trail and Honda CRV.

Volkswagen will build the 5-seater version Tiguan, that will cost Ksh. 4.5 million. Production of the 7 seater version begins in 2020. The car will cost Ksh. 5.6 million. The car is going to be produced in three phases.

According to Volkswagen’s assembly masterplan, phase one will see the production of the Tiguan.  The second and third phase will carter for the transporter and Amarok models respectively.

The Tiguan is based on the MQB platform. This platform is also in use by the Volkswagen Polo, Golf, Jetta and Passat model. The car comes with a 2.0L high power turbo diesel unit. Additionally, it produces 125kw/420Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The 4 motion four-wheel-drive system redistributes torque on affected axles depending on the nature of the surface.

It has a mix of both active and passive safety features including ESP, ABS, Traction control and 6 airbags as standard.

DT Dobie Opens New Showroom

DT Dobie which is a local Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen and Hyundai trucks dealer has opened a new state of the art showroom. The showroom is located along Uhuru highway. The multimillion-shilling facility is located on prime space, offering ultimate visibility for all its car brands.

Speaking to the media, DT Dobie CEO said that the new showroom will serve customers who find industrial area inaccessible.
